Standard Auto Spring Works
Leaf Spring Centre Bolt Replacement
The centre bolt passes through the spring leaves, keeps the pack aligned during assembly and uses its head to locate the spring on the axle seat. The U-bolts provide the primary axle-to-spring clamping force, so both systems must be correctly matched and installed.

Representative spring work
What you may notice
Signs worth having checked.
- The leaves have shifted out of line or the spring clips no longer sit square
- The centre-bolt head is sheared, worn or no longer locates in the axle seat
- The centre bolt is found broken or missing when the spring pack is disassembled
- A rebuilt or replacement spring pack needs a new correctly sized fastener
- The axle-seat locating hole does not match the existing centre-bolt head
What we look at
The inspection goes beyond one part.
- Bolt diameter, thread form and required grip length
- Head type, diameter and height at the axle-seat locating hole
- Leaf count, total pack thickness and alignment of the centre holes
- Axle seat, spring plate and mating surfaces for wear or damage
- U-bolts, nuts and related hardware that provide the axle clamping force
Good to know
A centre bolt is not a substitute for correct U-bolt clamping force. If the leaf stack or axle has visibly shifted, call the shop before driving the vehicle further.
